The London Contemporary Orchestra perform Clint Mansell’s otherworldly score for Duncan Jones’s Moon, side-by-side with a screening of the film for the first time.

On 20 July 1969, man set foot on the moon for the first time, now the LCO celebrate that day’s 50th anniversary, and ten years since the release of Duncan Jones’s cult sci-fi film Moon. It’s a story of celestial loneliness, with Sam Rockwell playing astronaut Sam Bell, in his third year as the sole caretaker of a space station. The music reflects this distant longing – plaintive piano forms the bedrock of each piece, joined by small steps of hushed strings and giant leaps of glitchy electronics.

Composer Clint Mansell will be in attendance and will open the evening with an introduction. Mansell was lead singer of Pop Will Eat Itself, before collaborating with director Darren Aronofsky on his film Pi. He’s since produced acclaimed scores for films such as Requiem For A Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, Loving Vincent, and High Rise.
